So you’ve got that summer body and you are crop top ready (or perhaps not). Whatever the case, summer ’16 is upon us and and we have to seize the day and make the best of it.

Here are some tips to maintain your fitness & weight loss journey through the summer.

1. Substitute Ice Cream for Fruit
*Cries*! So no Magnum? *sobs*
Yes child, magnum everyday makes a chubby you (and me)! When the sun is out, the endorphins are flowing and you want something sweet, reach for a fruit instead of the freezer. Kiwis, peaches, nectarines and grapes will serve the purpose and keep the pounds off. Win-Win!

2. Get Your Beauty Sleep
The weather is nice in summer, you want to stay out, have fun and dance the night away. But because the days are longer don’t mean you have to sleep less. You can have fun and still maintain a healthy sleeping pattern. Maintain a good balance and ensure you are getting enough sleep. Don’t believe the naysayers that will try to tell you otherwise.

3. Ditch the Bus/Car and Walk
Simple as pie. There’s no excuse. The weather’s lovely and you don’t want to be stuck on a stuffy bus. Burn the calories while enjoying the beautiful weather, simples.

4. Substitute Mixers for Sparkling Flavoured water
This is the most exciting for me! Alcohol is my major vice during the summer because its such an insidious calorie bomb. Between the actual alcohol and the mixers and the SUGAR that goes into some cocktails. I was almost moved to tears when I found out how many calories are in the average cocktail. But fear not, I have a solution for you; Sparkling Flavoured Water. Now you can go ahead and ditch the lemonades and other calorific mixers. Not sure you can take your own mixer to the bars/clubs (would be interesting to see the look on the bartenders face LOL), but definitely at barbecues and house parties which are usually the theme of summer. I strongly advice you to read the label of the flavoured water you buy, because some are packed full of sweeteners too! Ideally less than 2g of sugar per 100g.

5. Don’t Stop
Finally, don’t stop. Because summer is here doesn’t mean the fitness journey stops. It’s a lifestyle people so keep it going. Sun’s out so perhaps ditch the gym and go for a run! Win-Win for you and your pocket *wink*.
