Amsterdam in the spring

It has been spring for about 2 weeks already here in the UK, and I have confirmed with myself that there is a certain feeling that comes upon me once it’s spring. I’m not sure if it’s the change in temperature or the longer days, but my moods are certainly lifted in the springtime. Being myself, I decided to list my favourite things about this season.

1. The Blooming Flowers

This is the first sign of spring usually. The plants that have been dead all winter long somehow just know that it’s time to bloom again, I find it incredibly fascinating. Now I know there’s probably some robust scientific explanation for why this happens, but nevertheless it’s pretty awesome.

2. Longer Days

In England, the amount of sunshine and daylight we get can probably fit nicely in a small coke bottle (we get that little). So when the daylight begins to stick around till 5..6..7pm, I’m a happy bunny.

3. Shoulder Season Travel

This is probably one not many people may know about. Because of the limbo-esque nature of spring, it’s neither too hot nor too cold, there also isn’t a major school holiday as there is in the summer. This makes it the perfect time to travel. There are usually two shoulder seasons in the world of travel, Spring and Autumn. I love the spring because it’s the precursor to summer, unlike Autumn when you know Winter is Coming (see what I did there?).

“Shoulder season is the Mama Bear of travel times: tucked between the high prices of peak season and the lousy weather of the low season, shoulder season is juuuuust right for many travelers” – Travel + Leisure

4. Ditching The Layers

Maybe this should have been number one, but this list is in no particular order. One of the most exhilarating things about warmer weather is ditching the multiple layers of clothing. I absolutely detest being cold. Even feeling a second of cold wind on a warm day makes me want to cry. Now imagine my demeanour when it’s cold and windy for MONTHS. When I can finally wear a single layer of clothes beneath my outer coat, I’m happy as a clam. (Yes I wear a coat in spring, now run along)

5. Summer is Almost Here

Last but not least, as someone who’s always looking into the future, spring brings the promise of summer, the best season of them all.
